It is stated that the most auspicious place on earth is Giriraj Govardhan. It is more auspicious than Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Gokul and even Vrindavan.
The importance of Giriraj Govardhan is not just because Lord Shri Krishna lifted Giriraj on small finger of his left hand at the age of seven for seven days and nights. Giriraj is Shri Krishna himself in manifest form. Shri Krishna asked all Vraj vasis to worship Shri Giriraj instead of Indra (The king of all demigods). He asked them to make an offering of different food preparations to Giriraj Govardhan, which were made earlier for worship of Indra. After offering bhog to Giriaj Govardhan, Shri Krisna himself took the form of Giriraj Govardhan. As Krishna he was offering food preparations to Giriraj Govardhan and as Giriraj Govardhan he started accepting all food preparations brought by Vraj vasis and asked all Vraj vasis to perform parikrama of Giriraj Govardhan. Thus he is indicating to us that he is the same as Giriraj Govardhan. This emphasizes the esteem which Lord Krishna has for Giriraj Govardhan. We should also not treat Giriraj Govardhan as any other place of pilgrimage but should have the highest reverence and affection for Giriraj Govardhan, who is to day the only manifest form of Shri Krishna in Kaliyuga.
